Ontario Commercialization Investment Fund

York Medtech Partners has established an Ontario Commercialization Investment Fund (OCIF) to invest in early stage companies emerging from research institutes in Ontario. Our OCIF is registered as an Ontario Commercialization Investment Fund under the Community Small Business Investment Fund Act. Investments in companies made through the OCIF are eligible for cash grants from the Ontario government for up to 30% of a qualifying investment. YMP’s OCIF is sponsored by several of Canada’s premier research institutions including the University of Toronto, York University, University of Waterloo, University of Western Ontario, Queens University and Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre.

An eligible candidate for OCIF investment is a taxable Canadian Corporation that at the time of initial investment by the OCIF must be commencing activities as a new business and primarily engaged in:

• the research, development and construction of a prototype
• the development of a manufacturing process
• the implementation of a marketing or distribution strategy for a product or service
• has a reasonable expectation of profit
• has total revenue since incorporation of less than $500k
• was formed to exploit intellectual property developed by individuals who are faculty, staff, or students (or who were in the last three years prior to the investment)
• pays 50% or more of its wages and salaries to employees who work at a permanent establishment of the corporation in Ontario
• has 50% or more of its employees working on the eligible business in Ontario
  and has total tangible assets (including those of related corporations) of less than $500k
