Steven G. Arless, BSc, MBA, Advisor
Mr Arless currently focuses his efforts towards building early stage medical technology companies. Over the past two years he served as Interim CEO of Cardianove, an artificial heart company, Resonant Medical, a radiation oncology company, and Skeltex, a spine reconstruction company. His most recent efforts have focused on starting up a leading edge cardiovascular company, CryoLogix Medical Inc.

Most notably, Mr. Arless served CryoCath Technologies Inc. as President and Chief Executive Officer from a start-up in 1996 to 2006. CryoCath gained worldwide recognition as the leading technology company developing therapeutic catheter ablation solutions for atrial fibrillation, a pervasive cardiac arrhythmia. In 2008 Medtronic Inc. of Minneapolis, Minnesota, announced the acquisition of CryoCath, listed and traded on the TSE, for $400 million.

Mr. Arless has accumulated more than 35 years of International experience in the development, marketing and sales of medical device products, including 17 years at Smith & Nephew Inc. where he served as President for five years. His experience includes extensive involvement in technology transfer and strategic acquisition projects across the United States and Canada and numerous international marketing mandates in the areas of orthotics, prosthetics, orthopaedics, wound care and durable medical equipment. Mr. Arless holds a B.Sc. degree in chemistry from McGill University, and an MBA from Concordia University in Montreal.

He has served on the Board of Directors of several Canadian medical devices companies: Andromed Inc, Z-Tech, XLTek Canada and Cardianove for which he also served as Chairman of the Board. He is past Chairman of the Medical Device Association of Canada (MEDEC) and was previously a member of the Boards of Directors of the Canadian Wholesale Drug Association (CWDA), and the Canadian Advanced Technology Association (CATA). In addition, he is actively involved on the Advisory Boards of both McGill University’s Faculty of Science, and Concordia University’s John Molson School of Business.
Mr. Arless most recent award, on October 25th, 2006, was the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year.

John F. Feilders, PhD., Advisor
John Feilders has over 20 years  senior management experience at international medical device and financial corporations. Currently located in San Francisco John specializes in commercializing medical R&D discoveries, building and managing start-ups, raising capital, and establishing clinical marketing and sales organizations.

Most recently, Mr. Feilders has assisted in the corporate reorganization and building of the US operations for a surgical robotics and navigation company based in France, Praxim, SA.He also directed the planning of market research products and services for the world leader in healthcare market information, IMS Health, Inc.

Previously, as President, Mr. Feilders co-built and managed operations of TSX-listed orthopaedics company specialized in software, instruments and computer navigation systems for guiding knee, hip and spine surgery, OrthoSoft, Inc (sold to Zimmer Corporation in 2007). Also, as head of worldwide business development, co-built NYSE bio-medical company and $300 million product, Synvisc, for treating knee osteoarthritis. (Biomatrix,Inc which was sold to Genzyme Inc.).Mr. Feilders has a  PhD from Stanford University.

J. Nicholas Ross, BA, MA, CA, Advisor
Nicholas Ross is the Chairman of Rover Capital Corporation, a private merchant banking organization.

Mr. Ross received his Honours BA in English from the University of Toronto in 1959. At Trinity College, Cambridge, he received his BA in 1961 and in 1964 his MA, in Economics. In 1964 he earned his Chartered Accountant designation, being the Ontario Gold and Canadian Silver medalist.

In 1961 Mr. Ross joined Clarkson Gordon (now Ernst & Young) and from 1970 to 1996 was a Partner, responsible for a broad range of clients in various industries. He also played a role in the founding of the Canadian Association of Family Enterprise, and was a Director of its Upper Canada Chapter from 1992 to 1996.

Mr. Ross’ directorships include Enerflex Systems Ltd., of which he was a founding shareholder, and Butterfield & Company in Bermuda, which has grown over 25 years to become Bermuda’s largest importer of food products.

Mr. Ross is a member of the Ticker Club, and was President in 1993-94. He was for many years a member of the C. D. Howe Institute.
